Taken from, “For the First Time”, by Shin, Young-Bok.
In autumn, we rake fallen leaves together and burn them,
burying the ashes around the root of a tree. This is not
planting a tree, but fertilizing the existing tree.
Such should be autumn meditation:
It is not to desire new things,
but to look after the things
we have cultivated over the summer.
